The opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has announced the postponement of its planned national protest, now rescheduled for August 13, 2026. The demonstration was originally slated to take place on August 12.

The protest, titled “Dathivejje” (An Escalating Burden), was organized in response to the sharp increase in the cost of living and the rising exchange rate of the US dollar. While the party confirmed the new date, no official reason was provided for the one-day delay.

The event is scheduled to commence at 8:30 PM in front of the Social Centre. The MDP has issued a public appeal, urging citizens to participate in large numbers to voice their concerns regarding the current economic climate.

This move marks a notable increase in the party’s public activity, which has remained relatively quiet in recent months. The protest aims to hold the administration accountable for economic fluctuations that have impacted the general public.
