The Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has officially annulled the results of the ballot box stationed in G.Dh. Fiyoaree following significant irregularities during its internal elections. Ibrahim Muizzu, a member of the party’s Election Committee, confirmed the decision, noting that the move follows multiple formal complaints regarding the conduct of the vote.

While a new date for voting in Fiyoaree has yet to be determined, the committee is also deliberating the status of the ballot box in F. Feeali. Officials indicated that the committee is leaning towards a cancellation there as well, while simultaneously investigating similar reports of discrepancies concerning a ballot box in F. Bilehdhoo.

According to on-site officials in Fiyoaree, the disruption began when an individual, claiming to be a candidate’s representative, attempted to vote despite his name not appearing on the official registry. When denied a ballot, the individual reportedly incited a disturbance that resulted in the physical destruction of the ballot box.

Similar tensions were reported in Feeali, where voters expressed dissatisfaction over registration issues. Reports suggest that supporters of the two primary candidates were involved in the ensuing confrontation. This internal election is a high-stakes contest for the position of MDP Chairperson, featuring former President Mohamed Nasheed and Member of Parliament Mickail Ahmed Naseem.
