Malé City Council has announced an extension for the public to submit old or damaged copies of the Quran and other religious texts for proper destruction. The initiative, designed to ensure the respectful disposal of sacred materials, will now run from Friday, 14 June, until Thursday, 20 June 2024.
The previous submission period for these materials concluded on Thursday, 6 June 2024. Following increased demand or logistical considerations, the Council has decided to provide residents with additional time.
During the extended collection days, items will be accepted daily from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, and again from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM.
Collection Points
- Malé: Within the Sinamale’ 3 compound, accessible via the gate on Buruzu Magu, located opposite Galolhu Madhrasaa.
- Villingili: Malé City Council office, Villingili section.
- Hulhumalé: Malé City Council office, Hulhumalé.
Malé Mayor Adam Azim previously stated that the destruction of the collected Qurans and other religious texts would be carried out in collaboration with the Maldives Police Service. An association, ‘Youth for Unity’, is reportedly assisting in the collection efforts from households in Malé.
