Malé, Maldives – The Ministry of Agriculture has announced its decision to establish a temporary market in the Malé region. This initiative aims to provide a facility for farmers to sell their produce at fair prices during the upcoming Ramadan period.

According to the Ministry, work has already commenced on the establishment of this temporary market, which is intended to serve as a sales point for agricultural products grown for Ramadan. The market is specifically designed to cater to travellers arriving in Malé.

Collaborative Development

The Ministry of Agriculture confirmed that the market’s development is proceeding with the assistance and collaboration of relevant authorities. This partnership underscores an effort to ensure the market’s successful operation.

Opportunity for Local Farmers

The opportunity to sell agricultural produce at the new market has been extended to farming communities across the atolls. Island councils from these agricultural islands are invited to participate in the programme.

Submission of Interest and Required Information

Interested island councils are requested to submit application forms to the Ministry, coordinating with their local farmers. The Ministry’s announcement specified that the forms should include an estimated quantity of the main agricultural products exported from their island during the “past Ramadan (2025)” and the number of parties interested in selling products in the market in “2026”.
