The Government of the Maldives has officially launched the ‘Vilunveshi’ grant program, a strategic initiative designed to enhance climate change adaptation and ensure national food security. The program was inaugurated under the ‘Enhancing Climate Resilience and Food Security’ project.

This initiative is a collaborative effort between the Maldivian government and the Asian Development Bank (ADB). It is being implemented through the joint efforts of the Ministry of Climate Change, Environment and Energy, and the Ministry of Fisheries and Ocean Resources.

The primary objective of the Vilunveshi program is to provide financial assistance to a diverse range of stakeholders engaged in climate adaptation projects. According to the Environment Ministry, the grant scheme is open to individuals, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and innovative youth entrepreneurs. Furthermore, the program prioritizes women-led initiatives, small and medium enterprises (SMEs), and institutional projects focused on environmental sustainability.

SME Digital Private Limited has been appointed to manage the administrative and technical operations of the program. This initiative marks a significant step in President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s administration’s commitment to environmental protection, climate resilience, and the promotion of local productivity.
