MALÉ, Maldives – More than 500 applications for housing units and land plots have been submitted within 24 hours of the government launching its first housing scheme under the “Housing for All” policy.
The Ministry of Housing confirmed today that 518 applications were received by 11:00 AM on 23 February 2024, following the scheme’s opening at 09:00 AM on 22 February 2024. Of these, 399 applications were for flats and 119 were for land plots.
“Family Housing” Programme
The “Family Housing” programme, part of the wider “Housing for All” policy, aims to provide housing solutions for residents in the Malé region. The scheme offers a total of 15,000 land plots and 7,900 flats.
Application details, gazetted on 22 February 2024, indicate that submissions for flats will be accepted until 23:59 on 17 April. Applications for land plots will close earlier, at 23:59 on 4 March. All applications must be submitted via a dedicated online portal.
Allocation Details
Under previously announced guidelines, the 7,900 flats are designated as follows:
- 4,000 flats for Malé City residents.
- 1,500 flats for residents of other islands currently residing in Malé City.
- 2,400 flats reserved for special priority categories.
The allocation for land plots includes:
- 10,000 plots for Malé City residents.
- 3,000 plots for residents of other islands currently residing in Malé City.
- 500 plots for displaced individuals.
These land plots will include areas in Rasmalé, which is currently undergoing reclamation.
