A high-level Maldivian delegation has arrived in China to strengthen tourism ties and expand market presence. The visit, which commenced yesterday and will continue until July 11, includes State Minister of Tourism Harris Mohamed and the CEO of Visit Maldives, alongside representatives from leading tourism associations.
During the visit, the delegation is scheduled to hold high-level discussions with Chinese government officials, tour operators, and travel agencies. China remains one of the Maldives’ primary source markets for tourism, with over 168,000 arrivals recorded as of last month—marking a 20% increase compared to the previous year.
The strategic focus on China comes at a critical time. Recent geopolitical tensions between the United States and Iran have led to a noticeable decline in arrivals from the European market. To mitigate the impact of this instability, the Maldivian government is intensifying efforts to bolster growth in reliable markets like China.
