The Maldives Customs Service has successfully intercepted a significant shipment of narcotics attempted to be smuggled into the country via air transport. The operation, conducted yesterday, resulted in the seizure of 8.5 kilograms of hashish oil.

Official estimates value the confiscated illicit substances at over MVR 6 million. While the investigation is currently active, the Customs Service has not yet disclosed whether any individuals have been taken into custody in connection with the smuggling attempt.

This latest operation follows a period of heightened enforcement at the Maldivian border. Authorities noted that drug seizure rates have been on the rise, with over 36 kilograms of narcotics intercepted in separate operations earlier this year alone.
