The total assets held by the Maldives’ central bank, the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA), have surged past the $2.2 billion mark, equivalent to over MVR 40 billion. According to the latest financial statements released by the bank, its asset portfolio is divided into three primary categories: foreign currency financial assets, local currency financial assets, and non-financial assets.

The report indicates that among the foreign currency assets, which total MVR 12.9 billion, the largest share is held in bank balances and cash, amounting to MVR 9.1 billion. Investment securities account for MVR 2.8 billion, while the value of monetary gold is recorded at MVR 142.7 million.

Within local currency assets, government treasury bonds represent the most significant investment, valued at MVR 13.9 billion. Additionally, investments in subsidiary companies stand at MVR 600 million, bringing the total local currency assets to MVR 16.2 billion.
