A recent public opinion poll conducted by the ‘Ninmun26’ portal reveals that a majority of Maldivian citizens support the synchronization of Presidential and Parliamentary elections to be held on a single day.

The survey, which garnered significant public engagement, saw participation from 9,565 individuals. According to the results, 5,223 respondents—representing 54.6% of the total—voted in favor of holding the two major national elections concurrently. This move is widely seen by proponents as a strategic way to reduce state expenditure and administrative overhead.

On the opposing side, 4,342 respondents, or 45.4% of those polled, preferred to maintain the current system of holding the elections separately. The margin of 881 votes indicates a clear, yet debated, preference for electoral reform among the populace.
