Heightened geopolitical tensions in the Middle East have led to the cancellation of numerous scheduled flights to the Maldives today, significantly impacting the nation’s tourism sector. According to data released by Mohamed Firaq, Managing Director of Inner Maldives, major international carriers have suspended operations for the day, resulting in a loss of over 4,000 passenger seats.

The cancellations involve several prominent airlines, with Fly Dubai leading the list with five cancelled flights. Other affected carriers include Emirates and Qatar Airways with three cancellations each, followed by Air Arabia and Gulf Air with two, and Etihad Airways with one scheduled flight cancelled.

In response to these disruptions, the Maldivian government is actively seeking alternative aviation routes to maintain tourist arrivals. Authorities are working closely with industry stakeholders to introduce new airlines and explore diversified routes to mitigate the long-term impact of regional instability on the local economy.
