The Government of Maldives and the Government of India have signed several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) to procure equipment for fitness and recreation centers across 42 islands. The initiative is being implemented under the Indian Grant assistance for High Impact Community Development Projects (HICDP).
The signing ceremony took place this afternoon at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Minister of Foreign Affairs Irtisham Adam signed the agreements on behalf of the Maldivian government, alongside Minister of Youth Empowerment Abdulla Rafiu. The Indian government was represented by the High Commissioner of India to the Maldives, His Excellency G. Balasubramanian.
During the ceremony, Minister Irtisham Adam stated that providing modern equipment to these centers is a significant investment in the health and well-being of island communities. She emphasized that the project would facilitate active lifestyles and improve the overall quality of health for citizens.
The Minister further noted that this project is a step forward in empowering women and enhancing social inclusion by ensuring equal access to recreation facilities across the country.
