The 2026 Hajj season is scheduled to commence on April 18, as the inaugural group of Indian pilgrims prepares for their journey to Saudi Arabia. Official figures indicate that a total of 175,025 individuals will participate in the annual pilgrimage this year, departing from various transit hubs across the nation.
Union Minister Kiren Rijiju expressed the government’s commitment to providing a secure and comfortable environment for all travelers. He emphasized that the welfare of the pilgrims is the administration’s primary concern, highlighting a series of logistical improvements and policy updates aimed at streamlining the experience from departure to return.
Significant modernization has been integrated into the 2026 pilgrimage framework. For the first time, travelers will utilize the ‘Hajj Suvidha’ mobile application for immediate assistance and wear smart wristbands for enhanced tracking and safety. Furthermore, the introduction of a condensed 20-day travel option offers greater flexibility for those seeking a shorter itinerary than the traditional schedule.
On-the-ground improvements in Saudi Arabia include the deployment of high-speed rail services between Makkah and Madinah for approximately 60,000 Indian pilgrims. Financial security has also been bolstered, with each participant receiving an insurance policy valued at approximately ₹6.25 lakh. Regarding accommodation, authorities have secured hotel-style lodging in Makkah to ensure higher standards of comfort during the holy stay.
The Indian government is managing operations through 17 specialized embarkation points, including major international airports in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Lucknow, Hyderabad, and Srinagar. To ensure a trouble-free departure, airport protocols have been optimized, alongside improved medical screening systems and real-time grievance monitoring mechanisms.
Throughout the process, Indian officials are maintaining close cooperation with Saudi Arabian authorities to facilitate seamless arrangements. Pilgrims have been encouraged to adhere strictly to all health protocols and travel guidelines to ensure a spiritually successful and safe journey.
