Hulhumalé Hospital has officially inaugurated three new specialist medical services today, marking a significant expansion of its clinical capabilities as a tertiary-level facility. The newly introduced services include Urology, Neurology, and Gastroenterology.

The services were formally launched by the Minister of Health, Family and Social Assistance, Keela Ali. In addition to these departments, the hospital has established a dedicated Neuroscience Unit to provide comprehensive care for neurological disorders.

Speaking at the inauguration, Minister Keela Ali stated that this expansion is a vital step toward reducing the current burden on the nation’s primary hospitals. She emphasized that providing accessible specialist care within state-run facilities and minimizing the need for citizens to seek medical treatment abroad are key objectives of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s administration.

Ibrahim Abdul Razzaq Haleem, CEO of the Male’ Group of Hospitals, noted that residents of Hulhumalé previously had to travel to IGMH or Dharumavantha Hospital for such consultations. With the new upgrades, diagnostic tests such as EEG and Uroflowmetry are now available at Hulhumalé Hospital. He also revealed that preparations are underway to launch colonoscopy and endoscopy services in the near future.

The new Neuroscience Unit will offer EEG services during regular hours, with registration open until 14:00. However, the hospital confirmed that emergency neurological care will be available 24 hours a day. This development follows the hospital’s transition to tertiary status in November 2024, which included the opening of a 10-bed ICU, a 14-bed NICU, and a four-theater surgical complex.
