The Health Protection Agency (HPA) of the Maldives has announced that the threat of Hantavirus to the nation remains minimal, following reports of cases detected on international travel routes.

Concerns regarding the virus were recently elevated after an outbreak was identified on a cruise ship traveling from Argentina to Cape Verde last month. The incident resulted in three fatalities on board, with subsequent cases being reported in other countries.

In a statement released on social media, the HPA confirmed that it is actively monitoring the situation through the World Health Organization (WHO), specifically focusing on developments related to the South American cruise liner outbreak.

The agency assured the public that, to date, no cases of Hantavirus or individuals who have had contact with infected persons have been identified within the Maldives. The HPA maintains that the risk to the local population is currently very low and pledged to share further updates as more information becomes available.
