The Housing Development Corporation (HDC), in collaboration with the Maldives Institute of Technology (MIT), has officially commenced the “Vilunveri Kanbalun” (Resilient Women) program. The initiative is designed to empower women by providing them with essential technical skills and fostering independence.

HDC confirmed that 264 applicants submitted forms for this year’s intake, and every applicant was granted the opportunity to participate. The primary objective of the program is to reduce dependency on others, bolster self-confidence, and enhance female participation in technical fields.

Following significant interest in the 2023 edition, the scope of the training has been broadened this year. In addition to domestic appliance repair, the curriculum now includes a specialized module on common motorcycle maintenance and troubleshooting, providing a more comprehensive technical toolkit for participants.

Through the ongoing partnership between HDC and MIT, the program aims to cultivate a more resilient and skilled female workforce capable of handling domestic technical challenges efficiently. HDC also revealed strategic plans to launch similar skill-building programs targeted at youth and persons with disabilities in the near future.
