MALÉ, Maldives – The Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has issued a public warning regarding fraudulent calls and Viber messages seeking information related to flats and other services.

The state-owned developer clarified that it does not contact individuals via Viber or telephone calls to obtain personal data or facilitate financial transactions concerning housing units.

Scam Attempts Noted

In a statement released on X (formerly Twitter), HDC acknowledged an increase in attempts to solicit information from the public. These attempts involve individuals falsely claiming to represent the corporation through unsolicited Viber messages and phone calls.

HDC reiterated that it does not conduct any flat-related transactions or information gathering through these channels. The corporation urged the public to exercise caution and refrain from sharing personal details or engaging in financial transactions with unverified parties who contact them in this manner.

This warning follows a series of scam incidents reported across the Maldives, where significant amounts of money have been reportedly defrauded from individuals. The Maldives Police Service and other relevant authorities have consistently advised the public to remain vigilant and avoid sharing sensitive personal or bank account information with unconfirmed sources.
