A 22-year-old man has been arrested in Hulhumalé in connection with the seizure of 500 grammes of suspected illicit drugs. The arrest was made as part of an operation codenamed “Operation Alimagu” by the Maldives Police Service.

The individual was apprehended on 26th January following intelligence received by the Counter Narcotics Intelligence. The operation focused on Hulhumalé.

Suspect Identified

The Maldives Police Service identified the arrested individual as Ibrahim Amru Thaufeeq, from H. Sifkohiaya 0801 B, Malé. He was taken into custody on suspicion of possessing, using, and trafficking illicit drugs.

Drug Seizure and Legal Proceedings

During a search conducted as part of the operation, officers discovered approximately 500 grammes of substances believed to be illicit drugs in his possession.

Following his arrest, Mr. Thaufeeq was presented before the court for a remand hearing. The court subsequently issued an order for his detention for five days.

Ongoing Investigation

The Drug Enforcement Department of the Maldives Police Service is currently conducting a further investigation into the case.
