One hundred and sixty-four Maldivian Umrah pilgrims, who were previously unable to depart, are scheduled to travel tonight following the arrangement of a chartered Maldivian Airlines flight by the Hajj Corporation.

Islamic Minister Dr Mohamed Shaheem confirmed the development today. He stated that all necessary accommodation and logistical arrangements for the pilgrims in Mecca have also been finalised. The pilgrims had encountered delays, including flight cancellations, which were attributed to the deteriorating situation in the Middle East.

Minister Shaheem conveyed his appreciation to the Hajj Corporation and Maldivian Airlines for their efforts in facilitating the pilgrims’ travel. He also extended sincere thanks to President Dr Mohamed Muizzu for the importance placed on resolving the matter.

Previous Travel Advisory

The Islamic Ministry had previously issued an advisory urging Maldivian citizens travelling for Umrah, and those already performing the pilgrimage in Mecca, to exercise heightened caution regarding all travel arrangements. This recommendation was made in light of the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
