MALÉ – The Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation has announced revised operating hours for cargo and heavy vehicles in the Greater Malé area during the Islamic month of Ramadan 1447 and the first seven days of Shawwal.
According to the Ministry, vehicles utilised for cargo transportation and heavy vehicles will be permitted to operate only during specific periods within the Greater Malé region, commencing from the first day of Ramadan 1447 until the seventh day of Shawwal.
Operational Restrictions Detailed
The new regulations stipulate the following prohibited operating times for cargo and heavy vehicles:
- From the 1st day to the 19th day of Ramadan 1447, and from the 1st day to the 7th day of Shawwal, operations are prohibited between 08:00 and 09:30, and again from 16:30 to 20:00.
- From the 20th day of Ramadan 1447 until the end of the month, the operation of heavy vehicles and cargo transportation is prohibited between 16:30 and 20:00.
Compliance and Penalties
The Ministry emphasised that non-compliance with these regulations will result in a fine of MVR 750, as prescribed under the Land Transport Act. The Ministry urged all relevant parties to adhere to the established guidelines.
