Minister of Cities, Local Government and Public Works, Adam Shareef Umar, has assured that the administration will work collaboratively with all newly elected members of local councils and Women’s Development Committees (WDCs), regardless of their political affiliations.

Following reports that the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) secured several seats in the recent local elections, the Minister clarified the government’s stance in a post on the social media platform X. He emphasized that the Ministry would maintain equitable communication and professional relations with all councils, ensuring no discrimination based on political leanings.

Extending his congratulations to the successful candidates, Minister Adam Shareef expressed his expectation that the new representatives would prioritize community engagement and citizen-centric service delivery. He further noted that the influx of new members is expected to revitalize and strengthen the nation’s decentralization framework, bringing a fresh spirit to the system.
