Representatives of a coalition formed by three former Maldivian presidents held their second meeting this week to deliberate on the current political environment under President Mohamed Muizzu’s administration.

Former Presidents Mohamed Nasheed, Abdulla Yameen, and Ibrahim Mohamed Solih first convened on May 15, where they signed a formal agreement to collaborate in opposition to the current government. The alliance focuses on the restoration of fundamental democratic pillars, specifically freedom of expression, assembly, and press freedom.

To facilitate the movement, a committee was established with two representatives designated by each former leader. Following a period of public silence regarding the alliance’s progress, a media official confirmed that the envoys met this week to exchange views on the nation’s prevailing conditions. While the meeting was confirmed, specific details of the discussions have not been disclosed.

The committee includes Fayyaz Ismail and Eva Abdulla representing Nasheed; Mohamed Maleeh Jamal and Ismail Zariyand for Yameen; and Ahmed Saleem and Mohamed Rasheed Hussain for Solih.
