A 33-year-old Bangladeshi national has been arrested for allegedly smuggling over 11,000 illicit pills into the Maldives. The Criminal Court issued a 20-day remand order for the suspect, identified as Sajib, following his apprehension by authorities.
According to court documents, law enforcement officials discovered a total of 11,048 tablets suspected to be prohibited substances within the suspect’s luggage. A subsequent urine analysis performed on the individual returned a positive result for amphetamines, providing further evidence for the investigation.
Digital forensic evidence played a key role in the court’s decision. An extraction of the suspect’s mobile phone revealed communications with an individual named Muhiddeen, which included photographs of the illicit pills. The suspect now faces serious allegations of drug importation and trafficking.
