President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has officially appointed the Minister of Finance and Government Companies, Moosa Zameer, as the President of the Local Government Authority (LGA).
The appointment was made in accordance with Article 140 of the Constitution of the Republic of Maldives and Section 59 of the Decentralization Act. These legal provisions mandate that a cabinet minister, designated by the President, must represent the LGA and be held accountable for its operations within the People’s Majlis.
The LGA has formally extended its congratulations to Minister Zameer following his appointment. This leadership change occurs as part of a broader administrative restructuring initiated by President Muizzu, which has included the consolidation of several ministries and the revision of institutional mandates to enhance government efficiency. Following these reforms, the Cabinet currently comprises 15 ministers.
