The government has set a target to complete the construction of the 4,000 metric ton cold storage facility in Felivaru by this year’s Fishermen’s Day. The new facility is expected to significantly enhance the storage capacity and operational efficiency of the local fishing industry.

Minister of Fisheries, Ahmed Shiyam, conducted a site inspection yesterday to assess the progress of the project. During the visit, the Ministry emphasized the administration’s commitment to launching services at the facility by the upcoming national Fishermen’s Day to better serve the needs of the fishing community.

The Minister was accompanied on his inspection by the High Commissioner of India, Shree G. Balasubramanian, and the CEO of MIFCO, Ahmed Anas. This project is a key component of the infrastructure development aimed at addressing the long-standing logistical challenges faced by the fisheries sector.

The development is being funded through the Indian Line of Credit (LoC) with financial assistance from the Export-Import (EXIM) Bank of India, highlighting the strong bilateral cooperation in regional infrastructure growth.
