Ismail Naveen, the former Commissioner of Police (CP) of the Maldives Police Service (MPS), has been officially honoured for his 32 years of service following his retirement. A special ceremony, attended by Home Minister Ali Ihusan, was held today to mark his departure.

Mr Naveen submitted his resignation this month, which led to Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Farhad Fikree being appointed to temporarily oversee the police administration from last Wednesday.

Service History and Recent Context

Mr Naveen’s career in the police force spanned over three decades. He was appointed to the role of Commissioner of Police last June, succeeding Ismail Shuau, who also retired. Prior to his appointment as CP, Mr Naveen served as the Deputy Commissioner of Police.

His retirement follows a recommendation made by the Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee in November last year. The committee had advised the suspension of Mr Naveen and several other police officers. However, no action has been taken on this recommendation to date.
