Mohamed Aadheen Aarif, 19, who was arrested in connection with a fatal motorcycle accident that led to the death of a 16-year-old boy earlier this week, has been released from custody by the Criminal Court. His release on Wednesday came with strict conditions, including a travel ban from the island and the withholding of his passport.

The accident occurred on Boduthakurufaanu Magu, near the Sinamale Bridge, on Tuesday night. A speeding motorcycle, driven by Aarif, reportedly lost control and mounted the pavement. The 16-year-old boy, who was a pillion rider, was pronounced dead, while Aarif himself sustained injuries.

Court Proceedings and Release Conditions

Aarif was subsequently arrested following the incident and produced before the Criminal Court for a remand hearing. During the court proceedings, he stated that the incident was unintentional and expressed remorse for what transpired. He also requested to be released under strict conditions, citing the injuries he had sustained.

The presiding judge, taking into consideration Aarif’s statement and his injuries, ordered his release from custody. The conditions stipulated by the court prohibit him from travelling outside the island and require his passport to be withheld.
