The CEO of Male’ City Group of Hospitals, Ibrahim Abdul Razzaq Haleem, has announced that a digitalized registry for blood donors will be officially introduced this year. The initiative is designed to streamline the blood donation process and improve accessibility for patients across the country.

Speaking on the occasion of World Thalassemia Day, Haleem emphasized the urgent need for a more efficient system. He noted that the new digital registry will provide significant ease for both healthcare providers and donors, addressing the long-standing challenges of sourcing blood during emergencies.

Haleem highlighted that as part of the ongoing digital transformation of healthcare services, a registry for thalassemia patients has already been established through the ‘OneGov’ portal. This move ensures better management and tracking of patient needs within the system.

The lack of readily available blood donors remains a critical issue in the Maldives, with cases often reported where individuals must travel between islands to facilitate life-saving donations. Haleem concluded by urging the public to donate blood, stressing that voluntary contributions are vital for the health of the community.
