President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has officially nominated former Attorney General Fathimath Dhiyana Saeed as the Maldives’ Ambassador to the European Union (EU) and Belgium. The nomination was submitted to the People’s Majlis today for parliamentary approval.

Following the submission, the matter has been referred to the Parliament’s Foreign Relations Committee for further review. Dhiyana, an experienced legal professional, has been serving as the Ambassador at Large at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the past two months.

The role of Ambassador to the EU is considered a cornerstone of the Maldives’ foreign policy, aimed at fostering robust diplomatic and economic ties with European nations. This nomination follows a series of high-level diplomatic appointments, including new envoys to the United Arab Emirates and Qatar, as the administration continues to strengthen its international representation.
