Maldivian authorities have arrested a 33-year-old Chinese national on suspicion of importing a large quantity of drugs into the country.

The suspect was presented before the Criminal Court yesterday, where the court ordered a 15-day remand. He is being investigated for drug importation, possession, use, and trafficking.

According to the detention order, a significant amount of illegal substances was discovered in the suspect’s suitcase upon his arrival in the Maldives. Police informed the court that preliminary testing confirmed the presence of drugs.

The court ruled that the suspect should remain in custody due to the severity of the allegations and the potential threat he poses to society if released. Investigations are ongoing.
