Malé, Maldives – The new three-storey Barbaroo Mosque, situated on Majeedhee Magu at Radhebai Mahu, Malé, is scheduled to open today, following an adjustment to its initial planned inauguration. The mosque, designed to accommodate 1,400 worshippers, will commence operations after the Asr prayer.

Rescheduled Opening Confirmed

Islamic Minister Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed confirmed the revised opening schedule in a message shared with media late last night. The mosque had originally been slated to open yesterday.

The Minister did not provide a specific reason for the postponement of the opening.

Mosque Details and Government Initiative

The Barbaroo Mosque is a historical site within Malé. Its previous structure was demolished to make way for the new edifice, which was constructed by the Alisaafu company.

This opening aligns with the government’s broader initiative to inaugurate additional mosques before the holy month of Ramadan. Several new mosques have already been opened across the Maldives. The current administration has consistently emphasised the importance of constructing new religious facilities.
