A Bangladeshi national has been arrested in Hulhumalé Phase One on suspicion of trafficking alcoholic beverages. The individual was apprehended yesterday after police patrolling the area discovered 26 bottles of suspected alcohol in his possession. Following a court appearance, he has been remanded for 20 days.
Details of the Arrest
The individual arrested has been identified as Mehdi Hassan Rana, 25, a Bangladeshi national. Police stated that officers on patrol in Hulhumalé Phase One yesterday observed Rana exhibiting suspicious behaviour, prompting them to stop and search him.
During the search, authorities discovered 26 bottles, each containing 500ml of a liquid believed to be alcohol, inside a bag carried by Rana.
Court Remand and Ongoing Investigation
Subsequent to his arrest, Rana was presented before a court which ordered his remand for a period of 20 days in connection with the case. The Maldives Police Service confirmed that a thorough investigation into the matter is currently underway.
