The Prosecutor General’s Office has formally filed defamation charges against Hussain Fiyaz Moosa, CEO of the news outlet ‘Adhadhu’, and the publication’s Editor, Hassan Mohamed. The charges follow the release of a controversial documentary concerning President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.

The Criminal Court confirmed the filing of the defamation (gazfu) charges and issued a strict injunction prohibiting the further distribution of the documentary. The court order also restrains any party from discussing the claims made in the documentary, whether directly or indirectly, and bans commentary regarding the individuals identified as victims in the case.

To maintain public moral standards, the judiciary has announced that the trial will be conducted in-camera, away from the public eye. Any dissemination of court documents or case-related information is strictly prohibited, with the court warning that violations will be treated as contempt of court.

The legal action follows a prior police investigation where the Adhadhu offices were searched, and several items were seized. Both Fiyaz and Hassan have had their passports confiscated and remain under travel bans. President Muizzu has previously characterized the documentary as a collection of fabrications and vowed to ensure those responsible face justice through the appropriate institutions.
