A 40-year-old man has been arrested and remanded in custody following allegations of domestic violence and property damage involving his father in Malé. The Criminal Court has ordered the suspect to be detained for a period of 10 days as investigations proceed.

The individual, identified as Ismail Shifan of M. Ajameepool 3, faces charges of property damage and the intimidation of family members. According to the court order, Shifan is accused of physically assaulting his father and issuing threats against his relatives.

During the remand hearing, Shifan denied the assault allegations, claiming he had no recollection of the incident. While he admitted to a previous history of substance abuse, he maintained that he had been sober for a significant period. However, the police presented witness statements from the victims and photographic evidence from the scene to justify the necessity of his detention.
