The Maldives Police Service has apprehended 38 foreign nationals following a targeted operation into illegal activities, including narcotics possession and illicit gambling. The operation, conducted on April 16, 2026, was a joint initiative between the Police Intelligence Department and the Drug Enforcement Department.
Authorities confirmed that the individuals taken into custody are all Bangladeshi men. The suspects were identified following intelligence reports suggesting their involvement in organized illegal activities. Following their arrest, the group was handed over to Maldives Immigration for further administrative action.
In compliance with the Maldives Immigration Act, the detainees are currently being processed for deportation. The Maldives Police Service reiterated its commitment to monitoring and curbing unlawful practices within the expatriate community to ensure public safety and adherence to national laws.
