HULHUMALÉ, Maldives – The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has confirmed that 37 residents from seven apartments in Hulhumalé Phase Two’s Hiya Tower 5 have been provided with temporary shelter following a fire incident on Tuesday evening.
The blaze, which broke out in the tower around 19:00 hrs (7:00 PM) on Tuesday, caused substantial damage to the building’s main plumbing infrastructure. This damage has subsequently rendered toilets in several affected apartments unusable, according to reports from residents.
Response and Repairs
The NDMA stated today that the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) is actively involved in assessing the extent of the damage to the sewage system and is undertaking repair work. Additionally, HDC is collaborating with relevant authorities to investigate any further aspects related to the incident.
