The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Fire and Rescue Service has been deployed to mitigate flooding in the capital city following a period of continuous heavy rainfall. Military personnel are currently working to drain submerged streets to restore accessibility.

According to official statements from the MNDF, water pumps are being utilized in three primary locations: the West Park area in Maafannu, the vicinity of Dharumavantha Hospital and IGMH, and the area surrounding the King Salman Mosque. These regions have been particularly impacted by rising water levels.

The Maldives Meteorological Service (MET Office) has issued a Yellow Alert for the region stretching from Baa Atoll to Vaavu Atoll. Forecasters anticipate heavy rain and thunderstorms, with wind gusts expected to reach 40 miles per hour. Officials attribute the current weather conditions to the prevailing Southwest Monsoon.

While the entire country is expected to experience deteriorating weather over the next 24 hours, the MET Office predicts that rainfall may transition to scattered showers over the coming two days, with no immediate indications of exceptionally severe storms beyond the current alert period.
