The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has finalized the appointment of three new judges to the Civil Court, including Mohamed Raaghib, the former Deputy Minister of Climate Change, Environment, and Energy.

Raaghib is joined by Aasiya Azeema of R. Hulhudhuffaaru and Mohamed Nishath of G.A. Kanduhulhudhoo. The three candidates were selected from a competitive pool of 42 applicants following the JSC’s recruitment announcement in late June.

A legal professional by trade, Raaghib previously served as a Deputy Minister in the current administration. He was dismissed from his post in November 2024 after filing a constitutional challenge in the High Court against the state. The case contested the previous government’s decision to grant city status to G.Dh. Thinadhoo, where Raaghib argued the island did not meet the mandatory population threshold of 10,000 residents.

According to the JSC, the newly appointed judges will receive a monthly remuneration package exceeding MVR 60,000. This includes a basic salary of MVR 37,700, a living allowance of MVR 18,000, a risk allowance of MVR 3,300, and a phone allowance of MVR 1,000, in addition to medical insurance coverage.
