In response to a special request from the Government of Maldives, the Indian government has announced a significant increase in export quotas for essential commodities and construction materials for the current year. The High Commission of India in Maldives confirmed that the quotas have been approved in full, matching the quantities requested by Maldivian authorities without any reductions.

The revised quotas encompass a wide range of essential foodstuffs, including rice, sugar, flour, pulses, onions, potatoes, and eggs. Furthermore, export limits for critical construction materials, such as river sand and stone aggregates, have also been substantially raised. This development marks the largest volume of commodities authorized for export to the Maldives since the bilateral Trade Agreement was established in 1981.

The Indian High Commission further assured that the supply of these essential items will remain uninterrupted, even during periods when India may impose export restrictions on other nations. This gesture reaffirms India’s ‘Neighborhood First’ policy and its ongoing commitment to supporting the Maldives’ developmental needs and food security.
