A devastating fire in the ‘Iris’ residence of R. Alifushi has left a local couple displaced after their home was burnt beyond repair. The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and the Alifushi Council have since intervened to provide temporary housing and essential relief to the affected family.

According to the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF), the blaze completely destroyed the Iris residence and spread heat damage to the neighboring property, ‘Dholhabuge.’ While no injuries were reported in the incident, the intense heat caused structural damage to the walls of the adjacent building.

The NDMA and local authorities are currently working to ensure all humanitarian needs are met for the victims. While the fire has been extinguished, the exact cause of the outbreak remains unknown. Relevant authorities have launched a formal investigation into the matter.
